and gerung means:- a noun formed from the present participle of a verb
(( gerund means infinitive + ing))

the first correction is wrong , but the second correction is right now i am gonna explain the answer we often use past continuous ( i was doing) and the simple past ( i did) together to say that something happened in the middle of something else

i think my first correction was right, and makes sense
you don't need to say 'he was' because we know you're talking about
Ahmed since there is no one else mentioned. and the word ' was' is not
needed because 'burned' is already past so if you say 'cooking' that would be
past as well.
