The closer I get to non-Muslims, the more their questions are about the reason behind my Hijab. They think I am doing it because I must, not because I want to wear it.i

Did any of you have a similar experience?i

In the name of Allah

I can't add anything more than the previous replies mashAllah
and beside the points which have been mentioned earlier that I have the right to cover my self and wear what I want, I can tell them about the previous centuries, when the Christians where also wear something that share with Hijab (veil) in the aim and propose. The women there where covering their faces and wearing long clothes... Especially those of the high class or the ladies of the royal layer because they knew the real value of the woman and so did the Islam

True. Ibadaah can be as simple as smiling at someone. You just need to have the intention of actually doing that for the sake of pleasing Allah. i

Many non-Muslims don't know that. If only we introduce the idea that Islam perceives a smile to be a form of Ibadaa, they'll get a chance to see that Islam is not about "terror", at least a hint. What do you think?i
Yes, we can removing the wrong picture from islam if we dealt with non-muslim is good, and we appeared a simpleness in the islam rubrics.

I can't loading the second part:/
I will try again in another time - insha' allah-

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

ma sallah , what a huge work . About the first topic ,I think that when ever a muslim thinks about the Day of Judgement

he's going to think of well things to do to make his good work rise and makes his right scalepan heavier

these good works are for example , helping poor people take out harm from the road , bail sole ... and so on

Tha next one .. In my opinion , he didn't define hijab very well :/ . Woman is raised in top in Islam

I may define her like a pearl that is very expensive so Allah protected her by the pearl shell

I remembered when I was 12 years old, we were in an airplane and we were going to London , in which

my grand mother was there doing an operation , I was siting in my full Hijab and then the women siting next to

me asked me : why do Muslims wear hijab? I answered her and let her understand that it's in my desire and I

wasn't forced to wear it. After a while another women came and told her more

Mashallah tabarak allah, God bless Shaikh Yusuf, i really love him and i pray to god that he will give him a long life with good deeds, x

He is doing a marvelous job in dawah , two things always impresses me about him , the first thing is his big sense of humor , he really know how to make you laugh either you are a believer or not, he can draw that smile on your face! x

Actually this is a strong weapon which make the listener accepts what he is saying ! you know jokes like the ones he make cools down the heat and chills up who he is making dawah to. x

The second thing which always impress me about Shaikh Yusuf is his great knowledge in Shareeah comparing to other non Arab Muslim duat , not only that ! he is strong with what he believes too! x

He doesn't get afraid of saying the truth " AL haq" even if people does not like the fatwa he will make , unlike some brother duat , sometimes they get week and say things other then the truth just so people or who ever does not get angry of him, or say that he is so STREKT " Motashadded" and other silly claims. x

An example of what i mean , you have listened to what the Shaikh said about the REASONS why Islam make woman wear hijab , he said : " So, the protection of two things: something could happen to you in this world, and something can happen to you in the next world as well" x

Now the first reason " what could happen in this world" most duat would talk about it , but the other reason which is what could happen in the NEXT WORLD is a reason you will not hear some other brother duat talk about , and it is a great thing that shaikh Yusuf broght that up , we need to be remembered about God's punishments as well as his rewards , this is the way of the Quran , it shows frightening as well as desires. x

Another thing , when the Shaikh talked about the the proper hijab , he did not let this opportunity go away , he sent a strong message about what some muslim sisters are wearing now as Hijab that it is not a proper Hijab.x

May allah guide muslims to the right path , and guide us too , and may allah give his blessings to sheikh Yusuf and brother duat all over the world. x

Jazakom Allah Khayran brother and sister admin's of the English forum for all of the great work and effort you give here , barak allah feekom wa nafa'a bekom. x

A comment : some posters use fonts which make the letter "t" looks like a cross , its much better to use other fonts to get out of this issue , I know no one of you means of it as a cross , but for it looking like one is a reason for us to use a different type of font as there are so many, jazakom allah khayran.
x

Bissmillah. Alhamduli Allah.
You're watching the Mailbox. We have a website called Islammailbox.com. I'm your host Yusuf Estes.

And we're gonna take one of the emails that just came in.
"We make Duaa for you. Please keep up the good work on your program. We have a question: What about the rights of women in Islam? How do we explain it to people who are not Muslim?"

Well, that's a very good question. Actually, Islam is very clear about this, that men and women are not the same. We don't preach this idea of equality. We preach something bigger. It's called equity. Gender equity is what Islam is really about so that a man gets what's right for a man, and a woman gets what's right for a woman. And, certainly that makes a lot of sense. You can go into a large detail on our website. You can get a lot of information on it there. But, as far as equal rights, you'll be surprised to know that Islam is offering something that was never before Islam came. Women had the right to vote after Islam came. Women had the right to own property. Women had the rights that were never given to them by men before Islam was established 1400 years ago. I encourage you to visit a website in bigger detail. It's called: islamswomen.com. And if you forget the website, don't worry. Our main website will have links to it over there too.

Let's take the next question as they're coming in. It's asking:
"What's a good name for our baby? We have a little girl."

Well, there are many good names for the Muslims, but.. umm. Yasmin is very nice for a girl. Sarah is nice. There are many cute names that you can have in Arabic language, too. But, for a boy, that best names are Abdulla and Abdulrahman. That's what our prophet Mohammed peace be upon him said. Of course, I like the name Yusuf.

Let's go to the next question. It asks about:
"Can I have a pet bird? Some people said no; I can't."
Well, ummm.. It's better to let the animals live in the free jungles or in the forests where they're supposed to be. But, if you have been given an animal that's not suited to go out, in this case I'm mentioning myself. Someone gave us a bird that is not gonna make it if we release it outside. It'll die. So, what should I do? I take care of it. And, I put it in a huge cage. We feed it regularly. We play with it. We give it a lot of attention. And, it has a lot of fun with us. But, am not saying that you should go out and capture animals and entrap them and keep them caged up because this is really not in Islam either.

Get more details on that on our website as well. And while you're on the website, drop us a line. Send us some questions because we wanna read them here on our show. And that website again is: islammailbox.com.

Until next time, Assalamu Alaikum.
Peace be upon you

Brother Abdulrazaq , Barak Allah feek wa jazak Allah khayran

Another Great Mailbox episode for shaikh Yusuf , three issues were discussed briefly on that episode :

the first one was about Woman Rights !

Now that might be on of the biggest issues that are thrown against us by the enemies of Islam either from the unbelievers or from AL-Munafiqeen , and mashallah shaikh Yusuf covered that with a very clear short and strong answer ! IT IS GENGER EQUITY What Islam is calling for Not Equaling men and woman !

Equity is what people wants ! even woman don't want to be treated 100% like men , at least REAL woman , even Christian , Jewish and other woman don't want that even if they claim so, it is against their nature , why won't those arrogant and ignorant people understand that ?! woman and men are not equal in the creation , needs , emotions ,etc , what both men and woman wants is equity , And no other religion Gives equity for them other then Islam .

The second issue was about naming our children and what are the best names , and the sheikh jazaho allah khayran said that for girls there are no names which are The best in islam , but for boys it is abullah and Abdulrahman , and this will correct allot of people who think that the best names are " ma hommed wa obbed " ie, Mohammed , Ahmed , or all names like Abdullah, Abdulaziz, etc , which is not true.

The Third was about having a bird as a pet is that allowed in islam or not ?

I think Shaik Yusuf was not so clear on that issue As a Fatwa , i think he was kind of with the view which it is not allowed to do that unless if that bird will not survive outside and similar situations.

Will Most scholars say that it is permissible to have birds as pets and keep them in cages because of the hadeeh narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5778 and Muslim, 2150 :

That the brother of Anas ibn Maalik through his mother was called Abu ‘Umayr and he had a bird whose name was al-nughayr. The bird died and the child grieved for it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) tried to cheer him up by saying, “O Abu ‘Umayr, what happened to al-nughayr?”

This hadeeth is taken as evidence that it is permissible to keep birds, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not denounce Abu ‘Umayr for doing so, but with conditions , you should give them food and drink, and don’t harm them by any way or torture them , we all know the woman who entered hell because of a cat ! narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“A woman entered the Fire because of a cat which she kept and did not give it food or water, nor did she set it free to eat of the vermin of the earth.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari

Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar said in his commentary Fath al-Baari, among his list of the things that we learn from this hadeeth:

"It is permissible for young children to play with birds, and it is permissible for parents to allow their children to play with things with which it is permissible to play, and it is permissible to spend money on permissible things which will amuse young children, and it is permissible to keep birds in cages and the like, and to clip the birds of wings – because one of the two must have applied in the case of Abu ‘Umayr’s bird" Fath AL-Baari.

But yes , Some of the scholars are of the view that it is makrooh to keep them, and some disallowed that and said: Because man has no need to listen to their voices or enjoy looking at them. Rather this is a kind of extravagance and luxury, and it is also foolishness because he is enjoying the voice of a bird who is longing to fly free, as it says in al-Furoo’ wa Tasheehuhu, 4/9; and al-Insaaf, 4/275.

But again , most ulama are with the ruling that it is permissible to do that , and they have a strong evidence " Abu Umayr's Bird" .

Here are some links covering this issue ,

Jaza allah Shaikh Yusuf Khair ALjaza wa barak allh fekom ajma'een

We've got some more email coming in here on the Mailbox. You're watching Mailbox. I'm Yusuf Estes.

There is a question here. It's talking about:
"Islam being the fastest growing religion in the world. Is this true or false? What about the Catholic Church? And what does this say about Islam and the Muslims? And did Islam spread by the sword?"

Huh! Alright. Ah, first part of the question, is it true? Yes it is true. This is well known. If you wanna go back over the past ten years, you'll find that this something the Anglican Church acknowledged at the end of the last century. They said that Islam is the fastest growing religion. And by the year 2010, it will be the number one religion in the UK. We found that Mr. Clinton during his administration said Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. And Madeline Albright said that one in four of all humans on earth are Muslims. George Bush said that this is the fastest growing religion in the world.
And, also, now you're asking about the Catholic. It's the Catholic Church who issued the document recently saying that in fact, Islam has now has passed them and Christianity as number one in the world.
Now, what does that really mean? Well, actually not a lot. Really, it doesn't mean a whole lot by numbers because if you consider that there are about 6 billion human beings or more on the earth today, and you're saying that one in four, or one in five claim to be of this religion, or one in five claim to be Christian, what does really that mean if they don't follow their religion anyway? Not a lot. And even those who are trying to follow their religion, they find that often the governments where they live don't necessarily support their faith, and don't allow them the freedom to express themselves. Now, in the West, where I'm from, in the United States, it's really great because if you are a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim, a Buddhist, whatever, you really don't have the limitations or restrictions that some of the world governments are putting on the believers. And I really enjoy this great and wonderful opportunity to express my religious preference, but I want to respect the religious preference of others, allowing them to believe and do what they want to do. By the way, Islam has taught me to do exactly that. This is what Islam is teaching us to have proper respect for other religions as well. But, as far as being the fastest growing in the world, I would like to tell you that Islam is amazingly coming up with a lot of women who are entering Islam, at a time when people are saying that Islam is oppressive to women. And also the priests, preachers, ministers like myself, who have come to Islam are in great numbers. This is all impressive. But the biggest thing of all is what about you? What do you think about Islam? What do you think about believing in one god and doing what He wants you to do? Because that is what Islam means anyway.
