Speaking Classes

In order to ensure that we all benefit from this program, it is highly recommend you read the following carefully. Please ^feel free to ask about anything you find unclear. a



Outcomes: a

In the upcoming speaking classes, it is hoped that we achieve the following: a

a1. Achieve native or near-native proficiency in pronouncing English sounds -American accent.a
a2. Be able to recognize and understand spelling-sound relationship in English. a
a3. Develop pragmatic awareness and functional language.a
a4. Gain the ability to monitor and improve one's own speaking kowledge.a





Lesson Plan: a

Week 1: a
Sat: Getting to know each other
Sun: /p/, /b/, /f/, and /v/ sounds
Mon: cancelled
Tues: /m/, /n/, //, /l/, and /r/ sounds


Week 2: a
Sat: /t/, /d/, //, /Ѳ/, /k/, and /g/ sounds
Sun: /s/, /z/, //, and // sounds
Mon: /h/, /w/, /j/, //, and // sounds
Tues: English vowels


Week 3: a
Sat: Speaking skills: Greeting
Sun: Speaking skills: Agreeing and disagreeing
Mon: Speaking skills: Giving advice and suggesting
Tues: Speaking skills: Expressing opinions


Week 4: a
Sat: Speaking skills: Making offers
Sun: Speaking skills: Keeping the conversation going
Mon: Speaking skills: Making requests
Tues: Final project (optional)


N.B.: The teacher will inform you in advance of any changes that may happen to the lesson plan in accordance to students' needs. a





Homework, Participation, and Reports: a

a- Homework: a
You are required to hand in your daily assignments at 5 AM Makka time. Late assignments will be penalized.You will loose 1 mark for each day. It will no longer be accepted after the weekend is over.

a- Participation:a
As for participation, each student is expected to post at least one reply every day responding to questions that might be in lessons, asking a question, adding information, or giving examples. a


a- Reports: a
Each student is asked to have a conversation for 10 mins every day with someone or with himself / herself. This conversation can be about anything. It is required to help you develop confidence in your ability to speak in English. a

You are asked to submit a report everyday about the conversation you had, time it took you, the topic it was about, and words you didn't know their meaning in English. Anything else will be more than welcomed. a

These reports will be part of your assessment. a




aFinal Project: a

It is optional. You have the choice to choose whatever you would like to hand in as a project to raise your grades. The only requirement is to have it related to our classes. You should also hand in a written script of your project, and it should not be less than 150 words.

You have the option of presenting it the way you want: flash, recording, or even a design. However, all of you are required to hand in a written script.a

If you choose to do it, it will count for extra 5 % of your grades.

any verb was end ( f , p , k ) and add to it "ed " that is phonation "T"? m

I think it's the G

There is also another minor difference. Put your hand .in front of your mouth, and make the /g/ sound .You will notice a small puff of air coming out .Keep your hand there, and make the /k/ sound .You will notice a bigger puff of air coming out

Ihave some questions please

1- do the (z) sound occures by the letter (z) in the
middle and the end of the word?

2- we can have the (sh) sound by the phrase (tion) e.g. nation

3- you didn't have the (...) sound in examples at the flash
in the end of the lesson but insted you got the (z) sound repeated

I think you understand it wrong
it's lighter than (g)
try to listen to it again and consentrate
to the sound




it's like the (جـ) in Arabic
but with three dots under it
