At the time of the forefathers, roads around the time of dawn would be crowded with people leaving early for Jumu'ah, walking with lamps. It was narrated by Ibn Masood that he went out early for Friday prayer & saw 3 men who got there before him; he felt distressed & rebuked himself. So how about one who does not leave his ؟ house or even his bed until the Imam enters the masjid

In a hadeeth on Friday prayer: "Whoever washes his head (i.e. cleanses it specifically) and performs ghusl & goes out early, and sits close to the imam and listens [attentively] without interrupting, will have for each step he takes a reward equal to that of fasting & praying at night for one year." Another hadeeth also mentions "walking not riding"

A missed opportunity: A man came to the gate of a king, and when he passed the guards and gates and there was nothing left but to tell the king of his need, he turned his back to him and did not ask for what he needed. The one who does not focus in the prayer and feel that Allah is watching him, understand the meaning of what he is saying and enjoy his worship of Allah, has missed out on the greatest of gifts. As much as a person turns to Allah, Allah turns to him.

"Each one does according to [his way/religion/intentions)" (17:84, interp of meaning). Each one acts as per his essential nature. If he is essentially noble & pure he will do good deeds & show a pure attitude. If he is essentially base & evil he will do evil deeds. It is apt for the wise man to look at the kind of deeds, people & attitudes he is inclined towards. If they are good he should praise Allah, otherwise let him put things straight before it is too late. "Indeed he succeeds who purifies his self "(91:9, interp).

Looking for a husband on the internet or marriage channels is improper for a girl; it is like offering herself as a product to be examined by the wicked & it exposes her to fitnah and causes of temptation, b/c the wolves all excel at sweet talk, pretending to have good intentions and wanting to get married. The success rate is only 5%; the rest end up in haraam relationships and doom for the girl. What starts out as fun ends up in trouble in this world and punishment in the Hereafter.

How great is the need to protect sound human nature & common sense against the tide of abundance that is corrupting the sound human nature with which Allaah created man by means of shirk, bid'ah, sin, immorality, bad habits and evil conduct.

It is not shameful to borrow or rent a wedding dress, instead of buying it for a high price for just one night. The female Sahaabah used to do that. 'Aa'ishah said: I had a dress at the time of the Messenger of Allaah. There was no woman who wanted to adorn herself but she would send word to me asking to borrow it. (al-Bukhaari). Ibn Hajar said: This hadeeth shows that lending clothes to the bride is something that was done and was encouraged, and that it is not regarded as something bad.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "My ummah will split up into 73 different divisions (sects), all of them [will be] in the fire of Hell except one." In the Islamic world today there are so many divided groups, so which one will be the saved one? The prophetic response is clear: "...those who [remain] upon what I and my companions are on today" i.e. in their beliefs, acts, manners, and moderation.

If you fall into sin, do not make it worse by trying to find inventive ways to justify or condone it. If Allah has tried someone with the evil of misdeeds, the worst thing one could do is search for someone to justify it or judge it as permissable. This would be the equiv of seeking to shut the door of repentance upon oneself, submitting to one's situation, and reinforcing pursuit of idle whims and desires.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) will be the first one to enter Paradise. Anas ibn Maalik narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "I will come to the gate of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection and will ask for it to be opened. The keeper will say: 'Who are you?' I will say, 'Muhammad.' He will say: 'I was commanded not to open it for anyone before you.'" (Muslim)

"A good end" means a person was guided before his death to keep away from what angers his Lord, to repent from sin, and to focus on doing good deeds, and then he died in this state. Anas ibn Maalik said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "When Allah wills good for His slave, He uses [i.e. employs] him." They said, "How does He use him?" He said, "He guides him to do good deeds before he dies." (Imam Ahmad, al-Tirmidhi; classed as saheeh by al-Albani)

Children are more able to memorize. Hence salaf paid attention to teaching children Qur'aan. Ibrahim al-Jawhari said: I saw a child of four years who was brought to the caliph; he had memorized the Qur'aan & studied some fiqh, but when he got hungry he cried. The family has a role to play in following up & motivating the child, & they will have reward for that. Hadeeth: "The father [of the hafiz] will be clothed with two suits. They will say: O Lord, how did we get this? It will be said: By teaching your child Qur'an. Saheeh."

There are many aspects to donations by one who has terminal cancer etc. If he recovers, his donations are like those of any healthy person (i.e. unrestricted). If he dies during his illness, it comes under the rulings on inheritance: a bequest to an heir (e.g. children, wife, parents) is not valid; a bequest of more than one-third to a non-heir is invalid. Donation includes setting up waqf, giving charity/gifts, waiving debts, etc. This ruling includes cases of fatal crises e.g. on board a plane that appears doomed.

Moderation is a word that is misused by many. It does not mean being lenient regarding haram matters & ignoring Shari'ah lest one be described as not moderate. It does not mean diluting religion & doubting fundamentals of Shari'ah. It does not mean always taking a middle path between two views even though one is obviously sound & the other is not. Rather it means following the truth & being moderate in approach to it, without going to extremes or neglecting it, as Allah prescribed.
