( 13 ) "Let the wealthy person spend according to his means" (Q 65:7); "Lodge them (the divorced women) where you dwell, according to your means" (Q 65:6) [interp of meaning]. This is what Allah has enjoined so it is not permissible to be stingy when one can afford it. A stingy man sat down to eat with his wife and said: How good the food would be if it weren't for the crowds. His wife said: What crowds? There is no one here but me and you. He said: I would like it to be me and the dishes only. |

( 16 ) Al-Teebi said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) likened the Muslim to a merchant who seeks to make a profit, and free time is part of our capital. We should avoid following the dictates of our desires nafs and the Shaytaan, or we lose both our capital and our profit. |

Something that increases love & kindness is honoring your wife's relatives, helping her to uphold ties with them, joining them on special occasions, & praising them for raising her well. He should not take his problem with them to her & vice versa. If they mistreat her, he should tell her to be patient & should not mistreat them, as she may forget their mistreatment but she will not forget his. The Prophet (peace be upon him) would slaughter a sheep & distribute it among Khadeejah's friends. |

The value of time: Allaah swears by time (interpretation of the meaning) : "By Al 'Asr (the time)" [al-'Asr 103:1] - because of its importance and blessing. And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There are two blessings which many people do not make the most of and thus lose out: good health and free time." (al-Bukhaari) |

( 19 ) If you are going through hardship & cannot spend generously on your wife & children, do not deprive them of a kind word or good promise; that will console them and cheer them up. "And if you (O Muhammad) turn away from them (if you have no money at the time they ask you for it) and you are awaiting a mercy from your Lord for which you hope, then, speak unto them a soft, kind word" [17:28, interp of meaning] ، i.e., if your relatives and those upon whom We have enjoined you to spend, ask you for something and you do not have anything and have to turn away from them, then give them a kind and gentle promise, and say: When the provision of Allah comes to me I will give to you in sha Allah. |

( 20 ) Allah sends breezes of blessings. If they touch one who is heedless they bring him back to his senses. If a breath of His kindness touches a prisoner of grief it will free him. If a breath of His mercy reaches one who is drowning in sin, it will save him. If a person is distressed, Allah's generosity will relieve him. On Friday there is a blessed hour; make the most of it. |

( 23 ) A Bedouin said: O Omar the Kind, may Allah reward you with Paradise; clothe my daughters & their mothers, & be a shield to us from hardships of life; I beseech you by Allah to do so. Omar said: What if I don't? He said: Then I shall leave. Omar asked: Then what? He said: By Allah you will asked about me on the Day when rewards will be a blessing, & the one who is questioned will be between either Hell or Paradise. Omar said: give him this shirt of mine, for that Day, not for his words. I swear by Allah I don't own any other. |
