how are you , I hope you all fine in this particpation I will thalk about the type of translation , and I hope you make use of it Lets start 1- Literal Translation : Literal translation is probably the oldest type of translation practice . It involves the conveyance of denotative meaning of phrases and sentences in a text from one language to another . Therefore ,literal thranslation works where there is correspondence between the tow languages in terms of semantics and structure as can be illustrated by the following English sentences and their Arabic translations : A - Ali went to the markt yesterday ذهب علي إلى السوق أمس _B- Hanan is ayoung , kind-hearted woman حنان امراة شابة و طيبة القلب It should be mentioned that literal translation is different from word -for-word translation , which is often condemned as bad translation pratice , especially between languages of remote origiins like English and Arabic. The second type of translation
is the ****phorical Translation ****phorical translation involves the translation of SL ****phors into TL ****phors. It is inevitable in literary translation , as serious works of literature abound in creative ****phors whose formal rendition in the TL is as important as the conveyance of the messages they encapsulate . The translation of a ****phor should ideally be consistent with the degree of its ****phoric force (i.e naturalness in the TL( Therefore , in creative ****phors the vehicle _i.e the form_ and the tenor _i.e the content_ become intertwined and subsequently inseparable , as they are indicative of the unique properties of both the author and the SL culture. This being the case , regardless of how hardgoing the resulting TL texts will be . By way of illustration , consider the following ****phors of the renowned Iraqi poet Bader Shakir al-Sayaab and their ****phorical renditions : عيناك غابتا نخيل ساعة السحر أو شرفتان راح ينأى عنهما القمر Your eyes are two palm orchards at daybreak Or two balconies wherefrom the moon was receding However, ****phors are not always creative , they are frequently used as decorative ****phors that are basically intended to decorate the text by injecting it with flowery language that is laden with figures of speech . A quick look at ads and various forms of media , among other things , reveals how ****phorical the language used for general purpose has become . It should be noted that decorative ****phors may lend themselves readily to ****phorical translation that exhibits functional equivalence and a coincidence between functional and formal equivalence . Nevertheless , they may also lend themselves to non-****phorical translation that ideational equivalence independently of functinal and formal equivalence . By way of illustration , note the ****phorical English sentence below and its possible Arabic translations Ahmed will be flogging a dead horse if he ever tries to do a Ph.D. in lingustics 1- ستذهب جهود أحمد أدراج الرياح إذا ما حاول ان يحصل على شهادة الدكتوراه في اللغويات . 2- سيعود أحمد بخفي حنين غذا ما حاول ان يحصل على شهادة الدكتوارة في اللغويات . 3- سيفشل أحمد اذا ما حاول ان يحصل على شهادة الدكتوارة في اللغويات . |
